Do I Need Travel Insurance?

Travel insurance is available and recommended to protect your travel investment. Many trips, such as tours and cruises, involve non-refundable funds paid months in advance. Travel insurance protects you from losing this investment. Perhaps even more important is the ‘during travel’ coverage and assistance that comes with the top-flight insurance companies we carry.  Trip interruption due to illness or unforeseen circumstances can be very expensive, and medical care abroad is often not covered by domestic insurance plans. Also, an increasing number of countries require proof of medical insurance for travelers entering their country.

If I Travel what steps should I take to help reduce my chances of getting sick or getting someone else sick?

  1. Stay at least 6 feet/2 meters (about 2 arm lengths) from anyone who is not from your household. It’s important to do this everywhere — both indoors AND outdoors.
  2. Wear a mask to keep your nose and mouth covered when you are in shared spaces outside of your home, including when using public transportation.
  3. Wash your hands often or use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  4. Avoid contact with anyone who is sick.
  5. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  6. If traveling by plane internationally, get tested with a viral test 1-3 days before travel.
  7. Get tested 3-5 days after international air travel AND stay home for 7 days after travel. If you don’t get tested, it’s safest to stay home for 14 days.
  8. Follow state and local recommendations or requirements after you return from travel.
  9. Do not travel if you test positive; immediately isolate yourself, and follow public health recommendations.

Do I Need To Get Tested For Covid-19 Before I Travel

Health Services Board recommends travelers get tested 1-3 days before traveling by plane internationally. See HSB Testing and International Air Travel for more information. Also, get tested 3-5 days after international air travel AND stay home for 7 days after travel. Even if you test negative, stay home for the full 7 days. If your test is positive, isolate yourself to protect others from getting infected. If you don’t get tested, it’s safest to stay home for 14 days after travel.

Testing does not eliminate all risk, but when combined with a period of staying at home and everyday precautions like wearing masks, social distancing, and handwashing, it can make travel safer by reducing spread on public transportation, in airports, and at destinations.

Trip specific information on transportation can be found on the trip summary page however in most cases we use public transportation.
